|Irregular Guy (SH-CD-1009)|
Entertainer extraordinaire Mike Cross is proof that not all of the great singer/songwriters come from Texas!
Mike first achieved "hero" status throughout the Southeast in the late 1970's, with his dazzling live performances.
During the '80s Mike broadened his touring base, becoming a major attraction at concert halls nationwide and a
regular headliner at such prestigious events as the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival,
and the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS. His phenomenal one-man stage shows and best-selling recordings have
brought raves from Variety, Billboard, Audio, Guitar Player, The L.A. Times, The Christian Science Monitor, and many more.
Mike's music is a blend of folk, blues, rock, country, and Irish, spiced with a good dose of wonderfully warped wit,
which "crosses" all musical boundaries and defies categorization. Mike calls it "Appalachian Mountain boogie!"
With Irregular Guy, Mike returns to his folk roots for the sounds his audience loves best.
He kicks off with some great Irish fiddling on "The Cascade Jig / The Broken Branch Jig."
Dobro wizard Jerry Douglas and fiddle master Stuart Duncan join in on the powerful "Carolina Calling,"
which has been selected by the state of North Carolina as the theme for a new tourism ad for radio and TV.
Jerry's dobro drives the sizzling "Every Line On My Face" and provides the perfect accent to Mike's hot,
bluesy guitar picking on "My Spirit's Willing." "Poor Man's Heaven" and "Tobacco Song" have a fun, bluegrassy feel,
while "Brief Moment In The Sun," "Basket Of Thyme,"and "Flying Down The Highway" are beautiful, quiet love songs.
Mike finishes with the engaging "Farewell Toast."
Irregular Guy is filled with the compelling ballads, story songs, Irish and American fiddle tunes,
and quirky Mike Cross humor that keep audiences spellbound from California to New York.
This is "Appalachian Mountain boogie" at its finest!
